Second Annual Nancy Robertson Art Show upcoming on May 17

The Second Annual “Nancy Robertson Art Show” will be held Sunday, May 17, at Western Greenbrier Middle School with a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. to honor the creative work of Nancy Robertson who passed away two years ago. The artwork will remain on display during the following week.

Nancy’s husband, Joseph “Butch” Robertson said the purpose of the show is to turn students on to the joys and satisfaction of art. Last year’s show was a great success among the kids at Greenbrier West High School, where the art show was held. This year the enthusiasm has grown to include the middle school and even elementary school students. Many have art pieces included in the show.

“Nothing would have pleased Nancy more than to engage kids in art,” said Robertson.

This year’s art event will be about connections to Western Greenbrier Middle School. Students, alumni, staff and family members of any student, alumni, or staff are invited to exhibit. On display will be artwork by students from Western Greenbrier Middle School, both Greenbrier West and Greenbrier East High Schools and the elementary schools, as well as pieces from several of the artists with the Greenbrier Artists group from Lewisburg.

Last year’s Best in Show Artist was Greenbrier East High School junior year student, Kachina Matheney. Now, as a senior, she will be exhibiting at least one art piece in this year’s show.

This special event is sponsored by Robertson and the Greenbrier Artists group. In 2011, Nancy enrolled in a watercolor painting class under the direction of Jeannie Brenneman of Lewisburg. When she later joined the Greenbrier Artists group for regular monthly art sessions, it was obvious she clearly loved what she was doing and she cherished the relationships she developed with the members of the group. The “always smiling, up-tempo, happy Nancy” has been greatly missed by the group, Roberson reports.

All students and parents are invited to come to the Art Show and enjoy some of Nancy’s art and exhibits of mentors from the Greenbrier Artists group who wanted to honor her by helping with the art show. The public is also welcome.
