Dear Editor:
I was shocked when I read the letter written by Eugenia Snedegar telling about being rejected by her church, the reason being that several members complained that the furniture she had been asked to move could be seen from the windows on the outside of the church and ruined the church’s image. I do not believe people care about how furniture is arranged in a church. I do believe the image they look for is Christian love and acceptance. God, in His word does not tell us to reject people but to compel or urge them to come in. (Luke 14:23)
Some may think that the church is a “Shrine for Saints,” but it really is a “Hospital for Sinners.” All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. No one is perfect. (Romans 3:23 – I John 1:10)
God does not make us Judges in the sense of condemning. (Matthew 4:1&2)
If we’re expected to love our enemies (Luke 6:27) then how can it be right not to show love to other Christians. Jesus rolled the Ten Commandments into two. First – Love God with all your heart, soul and mind; and Second – Love your neighbor as yourself. (Matthew 22:36-40) Neighbor refers to anybody. Also, “Love works no ill (wrong) to his neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.” (Romans 13:10)
I realize at times people do need to be corrected, but it needs to be done in a spirit of love and meekness. (Galatians 6:1-3)
I hope Ms. Snedegar will find a church where she will be loved and appreciated. I’m sure many of our area churches would welcome her and be thankful for her willingness to work in the church. I do not believe she feels bitterness but I do feel she is deeply hurt and I wish and pray the best for her. She is so right to remember that God will never reject or discard her because He knows that none of us are perfect and He loves and helps us over the bumps rather than give up on us. God bless you richly and guide you, Ms. Snedegar.
