Mitsy Renea McKee
Lewisburg-Mitsy Renea McKee (nee Ferguson), died peacefully in Lewisburg on Monday, Mar. 3, 2015, after a two-year battle with melanoma cancer.
Mitsy is survived by her husband, Jamie; daughter, Alexis and son, Jackson, Lewisburg; her parents, Butch and Peggy Ferguson, Lewisburg; sister, Kelli Cassidy; nephews, Zack Cassidy, Jacob Cassidy (sons of Kelli Cassidy), Toby Penman, Alex Penman (sons of Jonny and Catriona Penman); and niece Tegen McKee (daughter to Peter and Lara McKee).
Mitsy was born Apr. 29, 1971, in Charleston, WV, to Butch and Peggy Ferguson. She graduated from Marshall University in 1993 with a degree in Education. She married Jamie on July 12, 2003, in Lewisburg. After moving to Lewisburg in 2005, Mitsy began working for the Greenbrier Board of Education as a substitute teacher and later became a full-time 1st Grade Teacher at Ronceverte Elementary School.
Mitsy was a loving and caring wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was passionate about educating students and raising her family in church. Mitsy was an active and dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Fairlea and had a strong faith that she carried everywhere with her.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Fairlea, 9232 Seneca Trail, Lewisburg, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 31.
The Funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Apr. 1 at the same church, with a reception to follow. Pastor Dallas Smith will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mitsy’s life.

The family would like to thank the University of Virginia’s Emily Couric Cancer Center for their continuous medical attention and personalized care for Mitsy, especially Dr. Geoffrey Weiss, chief of Oncology, and Staff. Additional special thanks go to the Peyton Hospice House who helped Mitsy pass on to Heaven in comfort and peace. Very special thanks go to the community in-and-around Greenbrier County for their continued support over the last two years. The support is and was a huge source of strength for the whole family.
