Coming to Carnegie Hall on Friday, Mar. 27 is the Floyd Radio Show, hosted by Elizabeth LaPrelle and Anna Roberts-Gevalt with guests Jimmy Costa, The Yew Piney Trio, Michael & Carrie Kline, Sarah Elkins, Patrick O’Flaherty, and Eric Fritzius. Showtime is 7:30 p.m.
The Floyd Radio Show is an old-timey variety show with original radio plays, comedy bits, ads, jingles, music and more. It features old time and traditional music in communities where music is played and enjoyed in its most authentic and purest forms. Rooted in Floyd, VA, a musical and artistic community, Anna and Elizabeth found their inspiration to bring the first show to life in September 2011. They have now entered into their third season.
Musical guests from past seasons include award winning flatpicker and guitar maker Wayne Henderson, banjo player Riley Baugus (whose credits include work on the soundtrack of Cold Mountain), West Virginia storyteller Jimmy Costa, singer Carol Elizabeth Jones, and a host of local favorites including Floyd’s own Mac & Jenny Traynham, Janet Turner, Chance McCoy (now of Old Crow Medicine Show) and Blacksburg’s Black Twig Pickers.
Each show is streamed live online during the show, and is available as a podcast. Many of the past shows are re-broadcasted by partnering radio stations.
