Mt. Tabor Baptist Church
Due to weather, the World Day of Prayer will be held Friday, Mar. 20, at the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church at 203 W. Foster Street in Lewisburg, starting at noon. The program will feature the islands of the Bahamas with music and Bible readings focused on Christian love that reaches out and draws others in. A delicious Bahamian meal will follow the service in the Mt. Tabor fellowship hall with rice and chicken, corn bread muffins, fruit, and dessert. World Day of Prayer is a worldwide ecumenical movement of Christian women of many traditions who promote a common day of prayer. The annual offering supports the needs of families around the world who are victims of poverty, violence and injustice. Join us for joyous service of prayer, music, and fellowship on Friday, Mar. 20 at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. Everyone is invited to attend.
Knights of Columbus Lenten Fish Dinners
Alleghany Highlands Council 8689 Knights of Columbus will host its annual Lenten fried or baked fish dinners from 4:30 to 7 p.m. each Friday at the Parker Center behind Emmanuel United Methodist Church off Dry Creek Road in downtown White Sulphur Springs. The dinners are served every Friday through Mar. 27 and include tilapia, scalloped potatoes, cole slaw, hard rolls, and home-made desserts and tea, coffee or soft drinks. Proceeds from the dinners go toward community, youth, church and council projects of the Alleghany Highlands Council, which has members in Pocahontas, Greenbrier, Monroe, Alleghany and Bath counties. A new schedule of prices for the dinners has been announced due to rising costs. Adult dinners are $11; children under 12, $6; under 5, free; all you care to eat, $15 (eat-in only); and a new family ticket for two adults and two children at $25. St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church
Lenten Dinners offered: Sunday, Mar. 15 – Home-made soup luncheon in the parish hall in the basement of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church after 11 a.m. Mass (approximately 12:20 p.m.), sponsored by the youth of the Catholic Churches of the Greenbrier Valley to help fund their trip to the University of Steubenville, OH, retreat this summer; admission is donation.
Tuesday, Mar. 17 – The annual St. Patrick’s Day Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Walnut Street at WV63 (behind Ronceverte Public Library) Ronceverte; 4-7 p.m. (take-out orders 4:30-6:30 p.m.) corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, hard rolls, coffee, ice tea, dessert; adults: $10; children 5-12, $5; under 5 free. Proceeds go towards the newly completed renovation of the kitchen in the parish hall of the church.
Greenbrier Valley Aglow Community Lighthouse
The Greenbrier Valley Aglow Community Lighthouse will hold its monthly meeting the third Monday of this month in Lewisburg. The guest speaker will be Carolyn Lehrke. Carolyn served as a missionary in South Africa from 1985-1998. Carolyn is also a retired nurse and resides in Lewisburg. The public is invited to attend the next meeting on Monday, Mar. 16 at 7 p.m. at Living Waters Family Worship Center on Montvue Drive. (formerly Calvary Baptist).
