Lewisburg City Council gathered for their June meeting earlier this month to review a series of ordinances, infrastructure project payments, employee compensation adjustments, and contract renewals while also recognizing the Greenbrier East High School girl’s state championship track and field team.
At the start of the meeting, Mayor Beverly White presented a proclamation honoring the 2026 Greenbrier East High School Girls Track & Field Team for capturing the West Virginia AAA State Championship, the first state title in school history for a Greenbrier East track and field team. The proclamation recognized the athletes’ hard work, dedication, sportsmanship, determination, and exceptional talent, as well as the support of Head Coach Nikola McClintic, Assistant Coaches Robert McClintic, Jamie Baker, Tim Holbrook, Tracy Asbury, Jim McCutcheon, and Barry Nday, along with the team’s support staff, parents, faculty, student body, and community members.
The championship season was marked by multiple school records being broken throughout the year and three all-time West Virginia state records being set in the 200-meter dash, the 4×200-meter relay, and the 4×400-meter relay. Eleven of the team’s 13 state qualifiers earned individual or relay state championships, while the remaining two athletes finished as state runners-up. Overall, the team claimed eight state championship event titles and four runner-up finishes.
The proclamation noted that the team’s championship brought honor to Greenbrier East High School and the City of Lewisburg on both the local and state levels. Mayor White officially proclaimed June 9, 2026, as “GEHS 2026 Girls Track and Field AAA WV State Champions Day” in the City of Lewisburg and encouraged citizens to join in celebrating the team’s outstanding accomplishment.
Council also voted in approval of five ordinances updating the city’s development and zoning regulations, including the second reading and public hearing of ordinances addressing site plan review procedures, Board of Zoning Appeals regulations, conditional use standards, administrative provisions, and permit fee schedules. Council also approved the first reading of an ordinance updating Lewisburg’s Health and Sanitation Code.
In other business, Council authorized Pay Request No. 49 for the ongoing Water System Improvements Project and approved two task orders with Chapman Technical Group related to future utility upgrades. One task order will provide engineering and construction administration services for the city’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure project, which will replace existing water meters with modern automated technology. The second authorizes preliminary engineering work for planned waterline improvements along the U.S. 219 North corridor.
Council also approved several personnel-related items including wage increases for part-time and seasonal employees and a promotion and title change for Planning and Zoning employee Nick Sloan, who is moving into the Director of Planning and Zoning position. They also voted to renew the City’s liability and workers’ compensation insurance coverage through WVCorp, an adoption of the Fiscal Year 2027 Water Fund Budget, a renewal of the city’s contract with The Mills Group, and a continuation of wildlife management agreements addressing deer and skunk populations within city limits with Hudnall Wildlife Services.
The next meeting of Lewisburg City Council will be held on Tuesday, July 21, at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
