‘Farmers – Outstanding in their Field’
Farmer’s Day, June 3, 4 and 5, will kick off with a street dance Friday night, 8:30-11:30 p.m. Buddy Allen and the Cheat River Band will be the featured act.
Start Saturday off with the EMS pancake breakfast at the Union Rescue Squad on Pump Street (pancakes, sausage, plus biscuits and gravy). Get there early and check out the Monroe Farmer’s Market on the corner of Main and Nota Street (Farm Family Insurance).
Many people are excited to see the Farmer’s Day 5K run and 3K walk coming to Farmer’s Day this year. Runners will start the race in front of the Monroe County Courthouse promptly at 9 a.m. The grand parade will begin at 11 a.m. While in town for the parade, consider patronizing various non-profit booths selling food and other goodies. After the parade, stay in town and head to the Union Pool for its opening day, pitch horseshoes in the amateur contest, pick out your favorite car at the auto and bike show behind the Union Fire Department, listen to gospel music on the main stage, or head to Gap Mills for the community center sponsored truck and tractor pull.
Free hot dogs and ice cream will be handed out during Farmer’s Day on the Field (Mountain View School Football Field). In addition to free food, there will be music and karaoke with Cowboy Will of 99.5 WJLS, field games for ALL ages, and various fun activities for the entire family. This starts at 5 p.m. and food will be served until its gone. FIREWORKS at 9:30 p.m.
Local churches invite attendees to their services Sunday morning
For questions about this event or other activities of the Union Area Chamber of Commerce, contact 304-646-8226 or 304-772-3003.
