20th annual 4-H Venison Contest, Bingo and Live Auction held

This year’s Guest Judges were Richie Holiday (left) , Mike Suttle, and Andy Lyons.On Feb. 15, Greenbrier County 4-H held their 20th 4-H Venison Contest, Bingo, and Live Auction event at the WV Building at the State Fair of WV. This is Greenbrier County 4-H’s biggest fundraiser of the year. All proceeds from this event will go towards the 2025 Greenbrier County 4-H Camp. Approximately 300 people were in attendance to help support 4-H and raise approximately $12,250.

This year’s Venison Cook-Off had three youth and two adult entries, with some intriguing recipes such as “Meat Loaf,” “Ramp Parmesan Crusted Deer Steak,” “Jalapeno Popper Stuffed Loin,” “Pepperoni Venison,” and “Venison Bacon.”

The youth first place winners were team 1 from Spirit Riders DS with their “Jalapeno Popper Stuffed Loin” and the first-place adult division winner was Charles Angle with “Venison Bacon.” First place winners received $100, second place winners received $50, and third place winners received $30 for their efforts. 

Guest judges for this year’s event included Richie Holiday, Greenbrier County Commissioner and owner of Morgan Funeral Home; Mike Suttle, owner of Sinking Creek Whitetails in Williamsburg, WV and Andy Lyons, Natural Resource Police Officer Sergeant in Greenbrier, Monroe, and Summers Counties.

The bingo event awarded 17 winners with elaborate prizes donated by local businesses and citizens. The live auction attracted 30 buyers, raising $3,710.
