The 12th Annual L.Z. (L- Landing, Z- Zone) Rainelle West Virginia Veterans’ Reunion will take place Memorial Day Weekend, May 26-30 in Rainelle.
As always, the event’s festivities will begin with a reception welcoming the Run For The Wall riders at Rainelle Elementary School on Thursday, May 26 at 2 p.m. As always, a full weekend of activities are planned for residents and guests. One highlight of the event will be the return of two displays, the West Virginia Vietnam Veterans of America – State Council’s “Mobile Wall” and “The Quilt of Tears.” The Mobile Wall is a tribute to the West Virginians who lost their lives or are still Missing In Action from the Vietnam War. The Quilt of Tears is a collection of quilts each themed in honor of victims of Agent Orange. Both displays will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., May 26 through May 29 and 8 a.m. until noon, May 30.
There will be a Candle Light Memorial Service at the VFW Memorial Park on Friday, May 27 at 8:30 p.m. The Park is located on US Rt. 60 near the intersection of Main and 5th Streets in Rainelle.
The parade will begin Saturday, May 28 at 12 noon. The parade route is 2.4 miles, starting and ending at the Industrial Park just south of U.S. Rt. 60 in Rainelle. Please call Fire Chief Ashley Jenkins at 304-438-5222 to enter a float or walking unit. The theme of the parade is “Red, White, and Blue!”
L.Z. Rainelle is very pleased to announce that they will again be hosting Cody Wickline for a concert at the City Hall Stage on Saturday, May 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is a donation of canned goods which will go to area food banks.
Numerous regional radio stations will participate in a “Murbles with the Veterans” rematch tournament on Thursday and additional “HealthCare Murbles with the Veterans” tournaments Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Many other activities and displays are scheduled for the weekend.
