Ethan Galloway, a student in the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine’s (WVSOM) Class of 2026, has been elected to the school’s Board of Governors.

The WVSOM Board of Governors oversees the financial, business and educational policies under which the medical school operates. It consists of nine members appointed by the governor of West Virginia and three elected representatives, one each from the school’s faculty, staff and student body.

His term as student representative became effective July 1.

Galloway, originally of Surgoinsville, TN, received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from East Tennessee State University in 2022. While completing his degree, he worked as a nursing assistant.

Prior to joining the Board of Governors, he served as president of the WVSOM Student Government Association and a curriculum committee representative for the Class of 2026. While at WVSOM, he has received the Dr. Roland P. Sharp President and Foundation Award of Excellence for Student Achievement, the Greenbrier Military School Alumni Association Scholarship and the WVSOM Alumni Association Scholarship.

He recently was appointed to the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine’s Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents’ executive board for the 2024-25 academic year as national programs representative.

Galloway said he is eager to serve WVSOM’s students during his time on the board.

“It’s an honor to have been selected by my colleagues to be their voice on the board,” he said. “Having spent the past year as SGA president, I’ve developed strong working relationships with my peers and WVSOM’s faculty and staff. I’m excited to continue to grow these relationships, and my goal is to make sure student success remains at the forefront of every decision we make. The board’s student seat allows us to provide insight into the ideas and issues that come before us and ensure they will impact our success.”
