The West Virginia Humanities Council, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, serves West Virginia through grants and direct programs in the humanities. The Humanities Council budgets more than $600,000 for grants and programs each year. A variety of grants are offered to nonprofit organizations that support educational programming.
Locally, minigrants were awarded to the Greenbrier Historical Society for the Native American Heritage Gathering and to the Peterstown Association of Community Engagement for the 2016 Peterstown Heritage Festival.
Humanities Council major grants for projects requesting over $1,500 and up to $20,000 are awarded twice annually. Minigrants support projects that request $1,500 or less, and are offered four times per year. The next Humanities Council major grant deadline is Sept. 1. The next minigrant deadline is June 1.
