
The State Fair of West Virginia Blue Ribbon Classic was held this past weekend, Jan. 16 and 17 in the West Virginia Building on the grounds at the West Virginia State Fairgrounds.
The Blue Ribbon Classic is a National Archery in Schools NASP tournament that was a collaboration between Ronceverte Elementary School archery and Old Greenbrier Baptist archery teams.
Twenty one different school teams throughout the mountain state attended the event which consisted of over 600 archers. Greenbrier County Schools had a great showing at the tournament with first place in the Bullseye and 3D elementary division going to Ronceverte Elementary School. Second place went to Alderson Elementary, third place went to Frankford Elementary, and fourth place went to Lewisburg Elementary.
In the middle school Bullseye division, first place went to Peterstown Middle, second place went to Eastern Greenbrier Middle, third place went to Independence Middle, fourth went to Shady Spring Middle, and fifth went to Mountain View Middle. James Monroe High School took first place in the high school Bullseye division with Independence, Shady Spring, Summers County, and Moorefield coming in second through fifth place.
In the 3D middle school division, Eastern Greenbrier Middle School took first place. Herbert Hoover took first place in the High School 3D division.
The State Fair of West Virginia Blue Ribbon Classic was a success due to all of the local businesses and the Greenbrier Sportsman’s Alliance who sponsored the event, as well as all of the parent volunteers and vendors that made this a unique event for our area.
