A feature of White Sulphur Spring city council meeting Monday night was Greenbrier County CVB Executive Director Kara Dense’s annual report. Dense, who has been making the rounds of the county communities, informed the council of the positive influence tourism has had on the local economy. She was optimistic for the future of Greenbrier County’s growth prospects.
Mayor Lloyd Haynes asked for a motion to approve the second reading of an ordinance to increase rental rates for the water and sewer departments. That ordinance passed unanimously, as did two others regarding city policies for employees to use purchasing cards.
In unfinished business, the mayor asked council to approve the lowest bidder for a Region IV-Phase I archeological study. The vote was 5/1 with council member G.P. Parker opposing the vote.
In new business the council approved a $1,000 Youth Recreation Funding Application for the Pee Wee Basketball 2014-2015 season.
Due to the upcoming holidays, Haynes announced the schedule for City Hall closures and garbage pickup dates:
Christmas Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 24 – City Hall will close at 2 p.m. There will be a regularly scheduled garbage pickup that day.
On Christmas Day, Dec. 25 and Dec. 26, City Hall will be closed all day. The garbage pickup for both days will be on Friday, Dec. 26.
New Years Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 31, City Hall will close at 12 noon. There will be a regularly scheduled garbage pickup that day.
On New Years Day, Jan. 1, 2015, City Hall will be closed all day. Garbage pickup for Thursday and Friday will be on Friday, Jan. 2.
