Winner of the raffle, John Francis with Jim Cooper’s widow, Carolyn Komar
Over the past few months, the Greenbrier Valley Bicycle Club has held a raffle for a sculpture donated by local artist Mark Blumenstein.
Blumenstein had been approached by the Club to design and build a bike rack in memory of one of their members, Jim Cooper, who died in 2013, and he created the piece to help with the fundraising.
Permission has been given by the City of Lewisburg and the Greenbrier Valley Citizens Advice Bureau to have the bike rack placed in front of the CVB building on Washington Street in Lewisburg.
Work is scheduled to commence this spring to upgrade and beautify the sidewalk area around the CVB and the bike rack will be included in it.
The drawing was made at the annual meeting of the Bike Club at the Wild Bean Coffee Shop in Lewisburg on Mar. 22. The winner is John Francis.
The annual meeting of the local bicycle club was held to sign up members for the 2014 season and announce their plans for this year’s activities, including the 8th Wheels of Hope Ride to be held on July 19.
