The Williamsburg Community Educational Outreach Service Club met Aug. 11 at the Williamsburg District Historical Foundation Museum. Members in attendance were CK Perkins, Virginia Hanna, Dorothy Hayes, Blanche Knicely, Loretta Shirley, Patty Post, Barbara Deeds, Linda Spencer and new member for 2016 Laura Rose. Gloria Post attended as a guest.
The meeting was called to order by President CK Perkins and opened with a devotional reading, “Don’t Get Cold,” citing Matthew 24:12&13 by Virginia Hanna.
Minutes of the July meeting were read by Virginia Hanna, secretary and approved without any additions or corrections.
The treasurer’s report was given by Dorothy Hayes.
Members reported 127 volunteer hours, 127 motivational hours and 25 books read since the last meeting.
Blanche Knicely reported on the Williamsburg Community Fair where the club had an exhibit. CK Perkins reported on the tour of the museum by those attending the Williamsburg School Reunion. Club members worked as volunteers at both events.
Officers and committee chairmen were selected for 2016. Officers will be Barbara Deeds, president; CK Perkins, vice president; Virginia Hanna, secretary; Dorothy Hayes, treasurer and Linda Spencer, reporter. Virginia Hanna will chair the continuing education committee, Patty Post the family committee, Loretta Shirley the marketing and membership committee and Blanche Knicely the purposeful reading committee. A variety of lessons were selected for 2016 meetings. Membership list was updated with new addresses. Cards were prepared for neighbors and friends with illness in their families.
The club planned to meet again Sept. 8 at the Williamsburg Historical Museum with the lesson, “Healthy Body Healthy Brain,” to be presented by CK Perkins.
