Lewisburg-William Spencer “Bill” Coleman, 86, passed away Monday, Apr. 18, 2016, at Peyton Hospice House after an extended illness.
He was born in Rainelle on July 4, 1929, the son of the late William Sydney Coleman and Ethel Whitten Coleman.
Bill attended WVU and graduated from Auburn University School of Pharmacy in 1952 and served his community as a Pharmacist at Coleman’s Pharmacy from 1952 to 1996. During his career he was recognized for his outstanding contributions to his profession with his election and service as president of the West Virginia Pharmaceutical Association.
He was a member of Old Stone Presbyterian Church for 75 years and served as both a Deacon and an Elder and was recognized and elected for the Office of Elder Emeritus in 2008. Bill was a member of the Lewisburg Elk Club Lodge #1758 and Greenbrier Lodge #42 AF&AM of Lewisburg, and Ronceverte Chapter# 21, Royal Arch Masons of Lewisburg and Greenbrier Commandery #15 Knights Templar and Lewisburg Rotary Club for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Nancy Cosby Coleman along with many dear aunts, uncles and cousins.
His is survived by his daughter, Jane Ashley Coleman of Cumming, GA; brother, Jimmy Coleman and wife Nancy of Lewisburg; sister, Mary Scarborough of Lewisburg; brother, Jack Coleman and wife Jean of Knoxville, TN; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 23, at Old Stone Presbyterian Church with Rev. Cameron Harkness officiating.
There will be a fellowship following the service for friends and family in the church Chapel of Old Stone Church.
