Folio: recently announced its 2015 list of Top Women in Media. This annual program celebrates the creativity, innovation, and accomplishments of women in the magazine media industry-despite the daily hurdles they may face. These women have fearlessly moved their brands, teams, and companies in new directions, propelling this industry into the future.
For the first time, Folio: is honoring a West Virginia business owner. Nikki Bowman founded New South Media, Inc., a multimedia company that publishes regional lifestyle and travel magazines for a national audience, in 2008. New South Media, Inc. publishes WV Living, Morgantown, WV Weddings, WV Living Outdoors, and West Virginia Focus. Custom publications include Explore: New River Gorge, Explore: Elk-ins, Explore: Reaching the Summit, IDlntel, and The Ultimate Sports & Travel Guide to the Big 12.
“I’m honored to be chosen as one of Folio:’s Top Women in Media. To be recognized on the national scene for what we’ve accomplished as a regional multimedia company is pretty special,” says Nikki Bowman, founder and owner of New South Media, Inc. “It is truly humbling to be honored alongside the likes of Hearst’s Ellen Levine and TIME magazine’s Meredith Long, women I have long admired.”
Each year, a select group of women are hand-picked by the Folio: team to represent the best and brightest rising stars, corporate visionaries, director-level doers, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders. Along with Bowman some of the 2015 honorees include: Hearst Magazine’s Ellen Levine, TIME magazine’s Meredith Long, Garden & Gun magazine’s Rebecca Wesson Darwin, Glamour magazine’s Connie Anne Phillips, and Entrepreneur magazine’s Lauren Covello.
Honorees will be recognized and celebrated on June 8, at the Grand Hyatt in New York City from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Contact Folio:’s Amanda Targowski at atargowski@accessinteLcom or 203-899-8436 with any questions about the Folio: Top Women in Media awards program or the awards luncheon.
