Walter Crone, 90, recently of Martinsburg, WV, former long time resident of Union and Sinks Grove, passed away Mar. 21, 2026. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years Mary (Onofrey) Crone, his parents Roy and Margaret (Falls) Crone, his siblings Everett Crone, Frances Erskine, and Loretta Kelly, and his son Doug Crone. He is survived by his children Denise (Joe) Corio, Dwight (Ronda) Crone, Dana (Paul) Pastro, ninegrandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
While his family moved around a bit during his youth, Walter grew up in the Lewisburg, WV, area on Muddy Creek Mountain. Walter was employed by the FBI as a statistician for almost 40 years. As a manager, he was responsible for publishing the annual Uniform Crime Report. He and Mary raised their children in Dale City, VA, before retiring to West Virginia.
Walter believed in and trusted in God. He shared generously of his time, talents, and treasure with many organizations through the years including scouts, historical society, local outreach, the church, and others in need. He was a mentor at Mountain View elementary and middle school for many years. By example, he taught those who knew him how to live life with zest and adventure, how to love one another, and how to laugh together. He loved spending time with his family.

Mass will take place at 11 a.m., Saturday, Mar. 28, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Ronceverte, WV. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, Mar. 29, in Greenbrier Memorial Gardens, Lewisburg, WV.
