Experienced VA healthcare leader to serve Beckley Veterans
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is pleased to announce the selection of George B. Drexel, IV, for the executive director, medical center at the Beckley VA Medical Center. Mr. Drexel will oversee delivery of health care to more than 13,250 Veterans.
“Mr. Drexel has proven his extensive knowledge and sound leadership skills as well as his commitment to Veterans time and time again,” says Robert Walton, the Veterans Integrated Service Network 5 director. “His considerable experience in operations, strategic planning, finance, HR and performance improvement are valuable assets for the medical center, its staff, and most importantly, the Veterans we are honored to serve. Mr. Drexel will begin his official appointment immediately.”
Formerly the associate director of the Asheville VA Healthcare System in North Carolina, George Drexel oversaw biomedical engineering, environmental management, facilities management, financial management, VA police, veteran’s mobility management, the office of information and technology, and information security.
A Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he served honorably from 1991 to 1995. Mr. Drexel is a graduate of Catawba College earning a Bachelor Degree of Business Administration in Information Systems Management and a Master Degree of Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University.
Beckley VA Medical Center is a 30-bed medical and surgical facility with a 50-bed community living center serving Veterans in 11 counties in southern West Virginia. Beckley VA Medical Center operates two VA clinics: Greenbrier County and Princeton, WV. In addition to health care services for Veterans, the medical center offers education programs for doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.
