Virginia Quillen McClung
Lewisburg-Virgina Quillen McClung, 98, formerly of Smoot, passed away Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Born May 31, 1916, in Springdale, WV, she was the daughter of the late George and Rushia Mae Quillen.
She had been a resident of Greenbrier County all her life, where she had been a Kindergarten and 1st grade teacher at Dawson and Smoot Elementary Schools, as well as a business owner with her husband Granville at their stores in Smoot. Virginia was a member of the Smoot United Methodist Church and was active in the Lewisburg United Methodist Church. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling, painting and flower gardening.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Granville W. McClung and Harry M. Thornton; two brothers, Harold and Russell Quillen; and sister, Ethel Kidd.
Left to cherish her memory are: her three daughters, Lou Ann Hylton and husband Denny of Leesburg, VA, Connie Jo Bryant and husband Curt of Lewisburg and Eloise Elliott and husband Mark of Princeton; grandchildren, Todd (and Sue) Hylton of San Diego, CA, Denna (and David) Zimmerman of Oak Hill, VA, Wesley (ard Patty) Bryant of Greenwood, IN, Brooke (and Mike) Jackson of Blacksburg, VA, Aaron (and Sheena) Elliott of Springfield, VA, Jennifer Elliott, and Megan (and AJ) Fitzgerald of Alexandria, VA; great-grandchildren, Sydney Bryant, John and Lydia Hylton, Benjamin and Victoria Zimmerman, and Quinn and Spencer Jackson; sister, Velma Barnes of Orlando, FL; and many nieces and nephews; stepdaughters, Carla Adkins and husband George of Rainelle and Marge Engelkemier and husband Rex of Rapid City, IA; and her “adopted daughters,” Sandy Feury Stevens and Myrtle Boggess Heimberger.
Visitation was Tuesday evening, Nov. 4, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg.
The funeral service was held Nov. 5 at Smoot United Methodist Church where Dr. Joseph Geiger and Rev. Rick Brown officiated.
Interment was in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
