A Virginia man was struck and killed on I-64 late Tuesday night near mile-marker 162 close to the Alta exit.
Andrew A. Shevis, 45, of Clifton Forge, VA, had apparently parked his car on the westbound shoulder of I-64 and then walked into the westbound traffic lanes of the interstate where he was hit by a Nissan Mirano driven by Don Trecek of Bellevue, Nebraska. The accident occurred at approximately 11:07 p.m. The westbound lane was closed for over an hour. Shevis was initially transported to Greenbrier Valley Medical Center and would later succumb to his injuries at Raleigh General Hospital at approximately 1:12 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1.
Investigating officers covering the incident are Sergeant J.J. Martin and Deputy B.W. Mitchell Jr. with the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office, and assisted by the West Virginia State Police and the Lewisburg Police Department. The Alderson EMS, Fairlea EMS, and the Northern Greenbrier EMS also responded.
