Ronceverte – Virginia Lee Browning Smith, 91, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.
Born Nov. 23, 1928, in Logan, she was the daughter of the late John and Rosa Pack Browning.
Mrs. Smith was a LPN for Dr. Marshall Steele in Maryland for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairlea where she was active in the Ann Edwards Missionary Society. Virginia was very active in her community. She was a member of the Ronceverte Womens Club, Greenbrier County C.E.O.S., volunteer for hospice, delivered meals for the Shepherds Center, was a Greenbrier County Belle and bowled with the Over the Hill Gang. Mrs. Smith often visited people in the hospital and nursing homes.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her only son, John Edward Smith in 2017 and brothers, Thamer, Ernest, Forrest and Riley Browning.
Survivors include her loving, devoted husband of 72 years, Jack Harold Smith; daughter-in-law, Ann Dickinson Smith of Pearl River, LA; brother-in-law, John Smith (Betty) of Alderson; sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Raines and Ida Lea Gosik (Joe) all of Ronceverte; grandchildren, Steven Smith (Tracy), David Smith; and a great-granddaughter, Avery Smith; along with several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Graveside service will be at 4 p.m., Saturday, June 27, at the Riverview Cemetery, Ronceverte, with Pastor Dallas Smith officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Shepherds Center, 1133 Washington Street East, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
