National Weather Service meteorologists confirmed a tornado touched down in the Richwood area on Tuesday.
Officials with the National Weather Service in Blacksburg visited the Summit Lake Campground area Wednesday to determine the severity of the storm. NWS officials said the EF1 tornado touched down at approximately 3:05 p.m. on June 21.
NWS says hundreds of trees were snapped or uprooted during the tornado that reached maximum wind speeds of 107 mph.
Meteorologists said the tornado traveled a total of 5.4 miles across portions of Nicholas and Greenbrier counties.
