The Top Gun basketball tournament was recently held at Island Park in Ronceverte.
The blue team were the champions of the high school and young adult division of this year’s summer Top Gun league held at the Island Park. The league is run by Marcus Berry, who does an admirable job creating an excellent summer basketball program for players ranging from middle school all the way through adults.
The blue team battled the black team, coached by Donnell Rawls, in a thrilling final. The blue team fell behind early, came back to take a lead behind the rebounding of Isaiah Godfrey and the playmaking of Kyle Beswick, only to see it slip away to the point that in the final seconds Keith Barry had a shot to tie or win the game.
While that final shot rimmed out, all the players displayed great sportsmanship and are already looking forward to next year’s summer league which will have an even greater number of teams.
