The Pocahontas County Opera House will present Charlie Chaplin Silent Film Night on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. The event features internationally renowned pianist, composer and arranger Tom Roberts performing his original score live to a collection of Chaplin’s classic silent films.

The evening includes three films from Chaplin’s early career, personally curated by Roberts. The program opens with The Rink, followed by The Pawn Shop, which Roberts introduces with special reflections on perception and how we see one another. The third film, Kid Auto Race at Venice, marks Chaplin’s first appearance as the iconic Tramp in a six-minute gem of silent-era comedy. As a special encore, audiences will be invited to enjoy One A.M., featuring Chaplin’s classic “goodnight everybody” ending.

Roberts, celebrated as one of the leading interpreters of early jazz piano, is known for his masterful technique and distinctive style. His career has taken him from the music halls of New Orleans to Harlem, earning acclaim for his work on Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator, NPR’s Riverwalk Jazz, and performances with Wynton Marsalis.

A former pianist and musical director for the late Leon Redbone – a past performer at the Opera House – Roberts continues that artistic legacy through his work for WQED’s Emmy Award-winning Nebby series and as founder of the Allegheny City Ragtime Orchestra and The Hot Club of Pittsburgh.

Performances at the Opera House offer an inclusive, family-friendly atmosphere. The venue is accessible for individuals with disabilities, with accommodations available upon request.

Tickets are $10 for adults, and admission is free for those 17 and under. Tickets can be purchased online at pocahontasoperahouse.org, at the 4th Avenue Gallery in Marlinton, or at the door on the night of the show.

The Pocahontas County Opera House is supported by the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts. Additional support is provided by Pocahontas County Dramas, Fairs and Festivals, Mid Atlantic Arts, and the Pocahontas County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
