West Virginia Secretary of State and U.S. Senate candidate Natalie Tennant challenged Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito to join her for five televised debates between now and the November election.
Tennant issued the challenge in a letter to Capito Tuesday evening after both candidates won their respective primaries. Tennant sent the letter just before taking the stage to thank supporters at her victory party in Charleston.
Tennant said she is willing to negotiate the format, dates and locations of the debates, but that they should be televised to allow as many West Virginians as possible to participate. Tennant said five debates is a reasonable number that would allow West Virginians to hear from their candidates in their communities without interfering with either candidate’s current responsibilities.
