TAMMY SMITH SKAGGS obitAlderson-Tammy Smith Skaggs, 55, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, at her home in Alderson, following a long illness.

Born Apr. 18, 1960, in Ronceverte, she was the daughter of Lucy Mae Ballard Smith of Alderson and the late Mark Edward Smith.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Ernest Lee Skaggs, Sr. and her mother-in-law, Eileen Okes Skaggs.

Mrs. Skaggs was the owner and operator of Tammy Smith Skaggs, Certified Public Accountant in Alderson. Prior to opening her own accounting office, she was employed as a Certified Public Accountant at Blake and Boone in Lewisburg and the former Acme Limestone Company at Fort Spring. She was a 1978 Valedictorian graduate of Greenbrier East High School in Fairlea and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Concord College in Athens with a Bachelor of Accounting degree. Mrs. Skaggs was a member of the Alderson Presbyterian Church, Alderson, where she served as an Elder of the Church and was the church organist and pianist for 35 years. She also served as the treasurer of the Alderson Bridge Trust Fund for many years. Mrs. Skaggs enjoyed music and loved to play the piano and organ. She also enjoyed going to train shows with her husband and participating each year in the annual Alderson Train Show and Home Tour. Her family was always very special to her, and above all, she loved to spend time with her family.

Survivors include: her husband, Ernest Lee Skaggs, Jr. of Alderson; her mother, Lucy Mae Ballard Smith of Alderson; four special cousins, Evelyn Eary of Mt. Nebo, Mildred Grizzard of Durham, NC, Betty Groves of Alderson and Vicky Ambler of Fort Spring; and many cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Alderson Presbyterian Church, Alderson, where the Rev. Sam Groves and the Rev. Lanny Howe officiated. Burial was in the Old Greenbrier Memorial Cemetery, Alderson.

Friends called Saturday evening, Sept. 26, at the church and on Sunday, Sept. 27, before the service.

Members of the Alderson Volunteer Fire Department and EMS served as pallbearers.

For those considering an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alderson Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 126, Alderson, WV 24910 or to the Alderson Bridge Trust Fund, P.O. Box 295, Alderson, WV 24910.

Arrangements by Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson, WV.
