Lewisburg is one step closer to allowing diners a cocktail with their Sunday brunch.
On Monday, the West Virginia Home Rule Board on Monday approved letting the city, along with Bluefield, Charleston, Clarksburg, Martinsburg and South Charleston begin considering earlier Sunday alcohol sales.
Restaurants and similar establishments in those cities would be allowed to serve alcohol starting at 10 a.m. Sunday instead of 1 p.m.
A state law passed this year lets counties hold referendums on whether they should start restaurant Sunday alcohol sales at 10 a.m. Some cities are using their home rule status to bypass the county-wide vote.
Greenbrier Countians will be able to vote on the measure this November.
Shepherdstown now allows the earlier Sunday alcohol sales as part of their Home Rule status.
