Elementary and middle schools in southern West Virginia and southwest Virginia could be one of five recipients of a $500 Balanced, Active Lifestyles Grant offered by local McDonald’s owner/operators. The grants are designed to encourage educators to teach students about physical fitness and wellness in unique ways and are open to any school that educates students in grades 5, 6, 7 and/or 8.
The application can be completed by any teacher, principal or administrator employed by a school in one of the nine eligible counties, which are: Fayette, Greenbrier, McDowell, Mercer, Monroe, Raleigh, Summers and Wyoming in West Virginia and Tazewell county in Virginia.

Applications will be judged on creativity, educational content, and program cost effectiveness. Recipients will be announced by Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015.
