Have you discovered Alderson yet, with its restored train depot, pedestrian bridge over the Greenbrier River, and great, diverse and affordable shopping? Friday, May 4, from 5-7 p.m. is your chance to discover some place different.
Start on the Greenbrier side of town at the Alderson Artisan’s Gallery. With wonderful work from local artisans, the gallery has something for everyone. From stained glass to fiber art; paintings to photography; jewelry to metal art.
Then stroll across the Memorial Bridge to the Monroe County side and wander into the Bridgewalk Shops. Eight vendors with new products that includes country and home décor, gifts and candles from Thimble & Plow, stone and metal garden art, scarves and jewelry from Howes Things, locally made jewelry by Cathy, plus affordable and quality used furniture and antiques.
Hungry? All the shops will have a few snacks, but if you need more, inside the Bridgewalk Shops is Elisa’s Eatery with locally smoked BBQ and one of the best hamburgers around. There is also a salad bar, hot dogs, and paninis, plus homemade pies and cakes for dessert. Sit out front and enjoy the evening and listen to some music.
Next door, browse through one of the oldest running businesses in the state, Alderson’s Store. It’s great shopping with a bit of a museum thrown in. Still owned and operated by the Alderson family, they sell clothing, antiques, jewelry, and all types of gift items.
Finally, the newly restored Alderson Train Depot will be open with its museum, gift shop and a running model train. Across the street is the new Bed & Breakfast, the Old Victorian Inn. A great place to have friends and family stay or just a weekend getaway.
So, join Alderson for an evening exploration and enjoy a riverside town!
