According to a press release sent from Greenbrier County Sheriff Bruce Sloan, on Thursday, July 20, at approximately 11:18 a.m., members of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office, the West Virginia State Police, and the White Sulphur Springs Police Department responded to a report of a shooting that occurred on 10th Avenue in Neola.
Upon arrival officers would learn that a domestic situation had occurred at the residence of Marvel and Janice Lamp. Janice Lamp, 71,was shot with a handgun by Marvel Lamp and was subsequently flown to Charleston Area Medical Center due to the injuries she sustained. Marvel Lamp also discharged his weapon at a neighbor’s residence on the west side of State Route 92 subsequent to shooting his wife.
A search warrant was obtained for the crime scene from a Greenbrier County Magistrate and members of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Team processed the scene.
Marvel Lamp, 85, was arrested on a charge of malicious wounding and arraigned before a magistrate. He was subsequently incarcerated in the Southern Regional Jail in lieu of $200,000 bond.
