Governor Earl Ray Tomblin has appointed Shirley F. Runyon of Lewisburg to a three-year term on the Board of Governors of New River Community and Technical College. Runyon was sworn in at the board’s meet at the Greenbrier Valley Campus in Lewisburg on Aug. 1.
Runyon is president and owner of American Beer Company of Meadow Bluff and Princeton. A native of Logan, she is a graduate of Logan High School and Marshall University. She has lived in Lewisburg since 1980.
Runyon serves on the board of directors of the West Virginia Beer Wholesalers Association, the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine Foundation and the Greenbrier Humane Society Foundation. She is a member of the National Beer Wholesalers Association, PEO Chapter O, Order of the Easter Star, the Lewisburg Rotary Club and the Old Stone Presbyterian Church. She is a life member of the Girl Scouts and is a former member of the Greenbrier Planning Commission.
At the August meeting, the Board of Governors passed a resolution honoring the service of Leslie Baker of Beckley, who served as chair of the board for the past four years. David Nalker of Lewisburg replaced her as chair on July 1.
New River is part of the West Virginia Community and Technical College System. It serves Fayette, Greenbrier, Mercer, Monroe, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Raleigh, Summers and Webster Counties from campuses in Beckley, Lewisburg, Ghent, Princeton and Summersville. Administrative offices are located in Beckley.
