Shirley Lenora Hess Elmore
Ronceverte-Shirley Lenora Hess Elmore, 86, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023, at the Lewisburg Healthcare Center.
Born Dec. 6, 1936, in the Richlands, she was the daughter of the late Ballard Preston and Lula Susan Hanson Hess.
Shirley was a member of Ronceverte Baptist Church where she held various positions through the years. She and her late husband, Charles Benton Elmore, owned and operated Elmore’s Farm Supply for 20 years. Shirley was selfless, caring, thoughtful, humorous, loving, kindhearted, devoted, gentle and generous. She was a prayer warrior and lover of southern gospel music.
In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her brothers, John and Ray Hess and sisters, Mary Cothran, Lib Howard, and Virginia Hess.
Survivors include a son, Doug Elmore (Karen) of Ronceverte; daughter, Susie Anderson of Ronceverte; grandchildren, Ben and Hannah; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral service was on Sunday, Sept. 3, at the Morgan Funeral Home Chapel, Lewisburg, where Pastor Andy Howdock officiated. Visitation was Sunday before the service at the funeral home. Burial followed the service in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville, WV.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations of sympathy be made to the Peyton Hospice House, 1265 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
