Shepherd’s Center of Greenbrier Valley invites public to annual Community Service Award Luncheon

The Shepherd’s Center of Greenbrier Valley (SCGV) invites you to its annual Community Service Award luncheon set to take place on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 11:30 a.m. at the WVSOM Student Center. This purpose of this fundraiser is to build awareness and generate vital funds to support the agency’s mission of enriching the lives of older adults through volunteer-based services and opportunities for lifelong learning and social connection.

Every year SCGV recognizes and celebrates the talents and wisdom of Greenbrier Valley’s older adults. The Community Service Award is presented to a person or persons who demonstrate in their lives the attributes of the Shepherd’s Center of Greenbrier Valley’s three tenets: lifelong learning, service to others, and spiritual growth. They give their time, talents, and resources consistently, with good judgment, and with a joyful heart, enriching the life of our community.

This year, we posthumously award John and Connie Manchester as our 2025 Community Service Award honorees. John led with vision, environmental stewardship, and civic dedication; Connie brought compassion, artistic vision, and a commitment to service. Together, they shaped the town’s culture, infrastructure, and sense of community – and their legacy continues to influence Greenbrier Valley’s heart and character.

The Community Service Award is SCGV’s only major annual fundraiser, and your support helps sustain and expand vital programs, including transportation assistance, lifelong learning, exercise classes, meal delivery, handy helper, and friendly visits. No gift is too small, and every contribution helps build a stronger, more connected Greenbrier Valley.

You’ve heard, ‘It takes a village.’ Well, it is this village’s unwavering support that allows us to continue providing older adults with resources and vital connections that help them live independently and thrive,” says Sarah Moloney, executive director of Shepherd’s Center of Greenbrier Valley.

This event features lunch by A Taste of Eggcellence, a silent auction, a short program with an original film by award-winning filmmaker BJ Gudmundsson, and a raffle for a unique sculpture by Mark Blumenstein. Tickets to attend are $100; sponsorship opportunities are available for those who wish to support the cause.

To learn more about our programs and services, inquire about volunteer opportunities, purchase tickets, or donate, visit scgvwv.org or call 304-645-4196.
