She is preceded in death by her husband, Burman “Pat” Cremeans; son, Lane Cremeans; father, Sheldon Judy; mother, Adeline (Scott) Judy; mother-in-law, Irma (Mitchell) Powell; sister, Sharell (Judy) Renick; sister-in-law, Phyllis (Cremeans) Dolan; and sister-in-law, Frances (Powell) Farren.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Grant Serreno of Linthicum Heights, MD; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Michael, and Tracey Bowers and great grandson, Chase Bowers, all of Pasadena, MD; brother and sister-in-law, Clyde “Rusty” and Mary Sue Judy of Williamsburg, WV; and many extended family and friends.
Mrs. Cremeans was born in Williamsburg, WV, on Nov. 19, 1938.
She attended Williamsburg High School, graduating in 1956. She received a B.S. Degree in education from Concord College in 1959. Her first teaching position started January 1959 at White Sulphur Springs Elementary, then came to her alma mater to teach. Shelby and her husband both taught at the high school, and it was to close in 1961. They moved to Maryland, and both taught in Anne Arundel County until retirement. Rearing two children, teaching and community activities made those years pass quickly.
Shelby and Burman moved back to Williamsburg in 1989. She provided care for both sets of parents and later, her husband. Shelby still found time to be active in volunteering for many organizations. One of her greatest joys was producing and directing for the Community Arts Council. She was a faithful member of Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church; they were her family. She remained as active as her health allowed right up to her death.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Williamsburg Community Action, PO Box 185, Williamsburg, WV 24991 or Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 110, Williamsburg, WV 24991.
As per her wishes, there will be no visitation or services.
