Sea Dragons compete in WV State Championship Meet

The Greenbrier Valley Aquatic Center Sea Dragons attended the WV Short Course State Championship last weekend.

The GVAC Sea Dragons swim team competed in the WV Short Course State Championship Meet in Morgantown Mar. 14-16. The Disney-themed “Most Magical Meet on Earth” provided a fun atmosphere paired with serious competition for over 450 athletes from 16 teams.

The high point scorers for the team were Dolly Knight and Kensley Routson, both with multiple top ten finishes in their age group. Dolly placed 5th in the 50Y Free and 100Y Breast, 6th in the 50Y Back and 50Y Fly, and 7th in the 100Y Free and 100Y Back. Kensley placed 5th in the100Y Back, 7th in the 50Y Free and 50Y Back, and 8th in the 100Y Free. Emily Hobbs qualified for finals in the 50Y Fly, 100Y Back, and 200Y IM, Cooper Homer in the 50Y and 200Y Fly, and Luke Taylor in the 50Y Breast. The 9-10 Girls relay team of Zoey Hobbs, Stella Rodebaugh, Lennie Taylor and Kennedy Willis placed 7th and 8th in the 200Y Medley and Freestyle relays respectively.

There were excellent swims by all participating Sea Dragons, with a total of 48 new personal best times and 22 new team records. Rylan Mann, Pierce Necessary, and Kensley Routson dropped time in every event they swam. Avery Hodges-McGuffin and Solomon Rodebaugh had the largest time drops, both improving in their events by over 50 seconds. New team records were set by Tianna Allen, Emily Hobbs, Zoey Hobbs, Cooper Homer, Dolly Knight, Kensley Routson, Luke Taylor, and Kennedy Willis.

The swim team will enjoy a short break and then gear up for summer league and long course season. Anyone interested in joining or learning more about the team can follow the GVAC Sea Dragons Facebook page or contact the Greenbrier Valley Aquatic Center.
