Lisa Circle, program manager for Ronceverte Development Corporation (RDC), spoke to Rotary on Sept. 30, and informed the members about forthcoming community projects and events.
Circle explained the defunct public swimming pool is about to be filled in with environmentally safe items such as dirt and rocks, all free from any treatment or toxic contamination. Plans are drawn and construction of the new Ronceverte Community Garden will begin immediately on the pool site.
Another imminent project about to break ground is the new solar powered electric car charging station, which will be situated in view upon the approach to the main intersection of Ronceverte. It will designate the beginning of the L&R Nature Trail. Sally Baker of the RDC adds, “We have to plug those Chevy Volts in someplace, the start of a nature walk seems like a perfect place.”
Other plans mentioned include new city signage, the Clifford Community and Recreation Center, dog park, farmer’s market and continued downtown business support and promotion.
Circle explained the role of RDC and its use of the Main Street approach to revitalizing the small town. Main Street Ronceverte works via volunteers in a variety of committees including Organization, Promotion, Design and Economic Restructuring. Volunteers to the committees are exposed to a wide variety of activities and educational experiences. There are RDC board seats needing to be filled as well.
Forthcoming events to look out for include the Halloween Bash, Christmas Parade and Super Bowl Sunday Football Party.
