The West Virginia Primary Care Association’s (WVPCA) annual awards ceremony took place Aug. 15 during their 28th Annual Conference held at the Oglebay Resort and Conference Center in Wheeling. At the conference the WVPCA 2013 Excellence in Health Care Award was presented to Steven Swart, CEO/CFO of the Robert C. Byrd Clinic in Lewisburg.
The Excellence in Health Care award exemplifies excellence in advocacy for access to primary care services and recognizes individuals who have provided strategic leadership to a health center in the fields of governance, management or project coordination.
Under the guidance of Swart, RCBC received National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Patient Centered Medical Home recognition in 2011, implemented a new electronic health record system, added behavioral health services and an onsite pharmacy, helped to create an extensive online patient portal and implemented a patient assistance program for uninsured patients. Swart also helped to financially stabilize the organization and increased cash on hand by 150 percent and reduced days in accounts receivable from 42 to 31 days.
Steven Swart was nominated for this award by the Robert C. Byrd Clinic, the Board of Directors, associates and the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) senior leadership team for his commitment to providing high quality, accessible and sustainable health care in Greenbrier County.
