The 32nd anniversary of Richwood’s Scenic Mountain Triathlon, organized by the Richwood Chamber of Commerce, will take place July 9.
Held in the Monongahela National Forest, it is the longest running triathlon in the state. It is an event that has become a favorite of triathletes and spectators alike. This race is a great inspiration to the athletes in Nicholas, Pocahontas, and Greenbrier counties, as well as across several states, with participants ranging in age from 12-70.
A total of 23.8 miles, the race begins with a 0.5-mile swim in Summit Lake, followed by a 17.1-mile bike ride from Summit Lake to Cranberry Mountain Nature Center on State Route 39/55, and ends with a 6.2-mile run from the Nature Center to the locked gate below Cranberry Glades and back to the finish line at the Nature Center.
