On Sept. 4, 2025, deputies with the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit responded to a call for service at Motel M, located in the Fairlea area.

Upon arrival, the first two deputies observed a female, later identified as 64-year-old Patty McCoy, leaning into the window of a parked vehicle in the rear lot of the motel. Deputy H. Rodriguez approached the vehicle to speak with the driver, while Lieutenant Hudnall made contact with McCoy as she began to walk away.

During the interaction, Lt. Hudnall observed McCoy attempting to conceal items in her left hand. A subsequent search revealed a small tin container in her possession containing four Suboxone tablets, one Subutex strip, and five individually packaged baggies of methamphetamine.

While interviewing the driver of the vehicle, Deputy Rodriguez was informed that McCoy had recently interacted with a male individual on foot behind the motel and had handed him an item. Deputy Staley located the male subject, identified as David Morgan, walking along Route 219. Morgan was detained and searched, and approximately one-half ounce of methamphetamine was found in his possession. The packaging of the substance was consistent with that found on McCoy, and Morgan admitted to having recently purchased the methamphetamine from her.

McCoy was subsequently transported to the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office for processing and was charged with multiple counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. Later that same day, she was released after posting bond through Greenbrier County Magistrate Court.

This marks McCoy’s fifth felony arrest related to drug offenses. The Greenbrier County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has indicated that a motion to revoke her bond will be filed.

In addressing the persistent drug issues affecting our communities, I have authorized a specialized team of deputies to proactively focus on areas known for drug activity throughout Greenbrier County. In close coordination with the Greenbrier County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, we remain committed to identifying, arresting, and prosecuting individuals who traffic in illegal narcotics and endanger the safety and well-being of our citizens.
