Dear Editor:
I read the article in our local paper this weekend about the Lewisburg City Council putting their Fire Service Appeals Board together. They stated there will be five members from the city of Lewisburg and three from the “first due area.” The very first thing that jumps right out at you is the fact that this must be a joke! No it is not and yes they are serious about this. My question to City Hall of Lewisburg is this: “Could you possibly slant the outcome of any appeal decisions any more than this?!” This would be laughable if it wasn’t such a serious situation!
It is my opinion that the members of Lewisburg’s City Council and the Fire Chief are blindly pursuing this Fire Service Tax out of nothing but pure GREED. They have thrown all common decency to the wind. The almighty dollar is all they are concerned with. Totally despicable.
To the people that live OUTSIDE of the city limits of Lewisburg, in what they are calling the “first due area,” you are about to receive a brand new “BILL” in the mail with some kind of double talk explanation as to why the City Council of Lewisburg and the Fire Chief think that you should pay for the new fire trucks [one has already arrived], and as I described before, the GARAGEMAHAL [new five million dollar firehouse] to put the new fire trucks in and of course, however many new paid firefighters they deem necessary! [above and beyond the four they already have]. These “notices” are going out the 1st of October. I feel sure there will be a threat of legal action accompanying these “notices,” such as a lien against your property.
When you open your brand new “TAX” bill and feel the greedy little hands of the City Council and the Fire Chief reaching into your pockets to TAKE whatever they want, I’m sure the majority of you will not like it. The question now is what will you do about this injustice? Will you fight against it or will you lamely concede? Now is the time for you to contact your legislators and get this ridiculous policy thrown in the garbage heap where it belongs!
Sincerely,
James G. Livesay
