The Rainelle Public Library 2014 Summer Reading Program called “FIZZ, BOOM, READ” was well attended this year.
The six week-long program was held each Wednesday at the library from June 15 to July 23 and was designed to encourage and develop good reading habits in children age six and up. The program helped to motivate children to read, enabled children to maintain their reading skills during the summer, and also encouraged children and their parents to use libraries.
In all, more than 55 children took part in the program for at least one day, which included a special magic show presented by Joey Stepp of Huntington. During the course of the reading program, children kept a log of the number of books they read and were able to redeem special prizes after turning their log books in to library officials. The library also sponsored a pizza party for those who participated in this year’s program.
The Rainelle Public Library also partnered with The State Fair of West Virginia during the summer reading program. The State Fair sponsored a Reading Awards package which included free gate admission tickets and carnival ride tickets. This year’s winner of the Reading Awards package was Larissa Wickline of Rainelle.
