Public meeting on water quality standards set for May 11

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Water Quality Standards (WQS) Program will hold a quarterly meeting on Wednesday, May 11, from 2-4 p.m. The public meeting will be held at DEP headquarters in Charleston at 601 57th Street SE.

The focus of this quarterly meeting will be on changes to be proposed by DEP to West Virginia’s WQS rule (47 CSR 2) for the 2017 Triennial Review. Over the last eight months DEP has received comments from industry and citizen groups, the general public, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regarding potential revisions to this rule. In follow-up to these comments, DEP conducted public meetings in November 2015 as well as January and February of this year. At these meetings, attended by both industry and citizen groups, useful discussions were had regarding potential revisions to West Virginia’s Water Quality Standards. While several topics were discussed at the meetings, the January 2016 meeting was devoted entirely to the application of Category A public water supply in the state. The meeting on May 11 will be to discuss specific revisions DEP intends to put out for public review later this year.

Related materials in advance of this meeting may be found as they become available at: http://www.dep.wv.gov/WWE/Programs/wqs/Pages/WQSpublicmeetings.aspx, and materials from previous meetings may be found at http://www.dep.wv.gov/WWE/Programs/wqs/Pages/wqsarchives.aspx.
