Patricia Kerns Walker
Lewisburg-Patricia Kerns Walker, 73, formerly of Ripley, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a short illness.
Born Aug. 6, 1941, in Clarksburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles William and Winnie Letitia Bowyer Kerns. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Joanne Kerns Landfried.
Mrs. Walker was a retired school teacher, having taught elementary and middle school English and Drama in Jackson County, retiring after 35 years of service. She graduated from Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg, and completed her undergraduate, and graduate degrees at West Virginia University in 1965. Mrs. Walker was a member and lifelong Vestry member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ripley, and currently, St. Thomas Episcopal Church in White Sulphur Springs. Following her retirement from teaching, she moved permanently to Lewisbnrg and has been an enthusiastic supporter of the Greenbrier Valley Theatre.
Survivors include: her loving wife of 26 years, the Rev. Elizabeth Ann “Betsy” Walker of Lewisburg; daughter, Lynne Pate Galligan and husband Michael of Fayetteville, NC; sister, Mary Sue Carr and husband Cyril “Dink” of Levittown, NY; brother-in-law, Weymouth D. Walker, Jr. and wife Marsha of Cumming, GA; niece, Christy Quinland of New York; two nephews, Weymouth A. Walker, III and wife Mary Ann of Roswell, GA and Darren R. Walker and wife Kelly of Alpharetta; GA; grand-nephew, Weymouth D. “Drew” Walker, IV of Roswell, GA; and three grand-nieces, Taylor and Vanessa Quinland of New York, and Emma Virginia Walker of Roswell, GA.
The Burial Office with Holy Eucharist was held Tuesday, June 2, at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in White Sulphur Springs, where the Rev. C. Christopher Thompson and the Rev. Cheryl A. Winter officiated. Interment followed in the St. Thomas Episcopal Church Columbarium with a reception following at Butler Hall of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, White Sulphur Springs.
