Ronceverte-Norman Shelby Van Buren, 87, passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, at home with his daughter by his side.
He was born Oct. 28, 1931, in Ronceverte and was the son of the late Hazel and Ruben Van Buren.
Norman was a U.S. Army veteran, and worked at Burlington Ribbon Factory in White Sulphur Springs before becoming a self employed as a painter.
He loved to hunt and spend time at the camp with his family and friends, as well as sports, particularly when his grand and great-grandchildren were playing.
Other than his parents Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; daughter, Karen Handley; baby sister, Elrita; and brother, Richard.
Surviving are his daughter, Juanita; sisters, Anna Gail O’Brien, Elsie Delores Hoylman and Betty Marie Mulkey (Charles); brothers, Marvin (Rita) and Elbert (Barbara); grandchildren, Jason Stone, Gabriel Stone (Katie), C. J. Handley (Hilary) and Shelby Tincher (Ernie); great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Jara, Kaden, Myla and Forrest.
There was a graveside service Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery on Hokes Mill Road, Organ Cave.
The family received family and friends on Monday evening, Nov. 19, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Ronceverte.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to Wallace & Wallace, 212 Monroe Avenue, Ronceverte, WV 24970.
The family wants to thank Dr. Jamie Dilly, Dr. Moshy and the nurses and staff at Peyton Hospice House for the wonderful care and support during Norman’s last days.
