The next event for, Race Matters: Continuing Conversations will be a potluck dinner on Thursday, Feb. 18 from 5:30-7 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Lewisburg. The Race Matters Committee will provide a main course and beverages. The event is free and open to all. The public is encouraged to attend and bring a dish to share.
The purpose of the dinner is not only to resume conversations on race but also to continue to build diverse networks of support in our community. In addition to sharing a meal, people who attend the dinner will be encouraged to share the skills that they bring to the table. Steering Committee member Wanda Johnson commented, “We need to break down artificial barriers and discover ways that we can help each other and work together.”
This is the third program in a series of monthly events designed to help people see race through a new lens of understanding and effect positive change in the community. On Jan. 18, Action Groups were formed and members began to formulate goals and strategies to end systemic racism as well as increase the community’s appreciation of diversity through education. These groups will meet again on Mar. 21.
