Karen Carter-Harvey has been named Interim Dean of Workforce, Technical and Community Education and James Fedders has been named Interim Director of Institutional Research at New River Community and Technical College.
Carter-Harvey joined New River CTC in in 2009 as an instructor of psychology. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from West Virginia University, graduating cum laude and a master’s degree in psychology from Marshall University. In 2012, she was a recipient of the Teaching Excellence Award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD).
In her new role, Carter-Harvey will coordinate workforce education, continuing education, and community education programs across the nine counties served by New River CTC. Although she will be based at the Raleigh County Campus/Central Administration building in Beaver, she will travel extensively throughout the service region.
James Fedders joined New River CTC last year as an instructional specialist of developmental education. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Thomas More College in Fort Mitchell, Ky., and a master’s in biology from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. He also completed graduate courses in biology and ecology at the University of Louisville and WVU.
As Interim Director of Institutional Research, Fedders will work in collaboration with Vice President for Academic Affairs Amy DeSonia to provide leadership for internal and external research activities, the institutional planning processes, and the assessment of institutional performance in relation to student learning outcomes.
New River Community and Technical College serves nine counties in southeastern West Virginia from the Greenbrier Valley Campus (Lewisburg), Mercer County Campus (Princeton), Nicholas County Campus (Summersville) and Raleigh County Campus (Beaver/Beckley). Administrative offices are located in Beaver.
