The Greenbrier County Commission race just got a new candidate. Greenbrier East High School teacher Donna Campbell Nickell has filed as an Independent and will appear on the ballot along with Republican incumbent Mike McClung and Democrat Brad Tuckwiller.
A Lewisburg resident, Nickell beat the deadline of Aug. 1 to be included on the ballot by walking her neighborhood and the downtown district seeking signatures to meet the required 1 percent of voters who cast ballots in the May primary election. According to County Clerk Robin Loudermilk, Nickell’s count of 87 names were validated by the Greenbrier County Clerk’s election office.
Nickell has stated her interest in the job was not based on politics, but in providing “the best possible service for our citizens.”
She is married to Dr. David Yost of WVU Tech, with whom she has two grown children and four grandchildren. In addition to her class load at GEHS, she serves as clerk of the session at Clifton Presbyterian Church.
