White Sulphur Springs – Nancy Joan Smith, 89, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Mar. 28, 2018, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Nancy was born in Mullins on Mar. 22, 1929.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence E. Smith and her mother, Della Scott Smith; brother, Clarence E. Smith, Jr.; and beloved grandmother, Alice B. Smith.
Nancy was an accomplished pianist and her most prized possession was the piano her parents gave her when she was a child.
Nancy studied business at Concord College and Columbia University. She was a teacher at Herndon High School and worked many years as the food Service director for Wyoming County Schools. She was a member of the Mullins Chapter of the Eastern Star and served as their pianist. She retired in 1981. She moved to White Sulphur Springs to be near her family.
She is survived by many cousins and special friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, Apr. 2, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg where Pastor Gordon Ross officiated. Interment followed in the Sinks Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Friends called one hour prior to services with Eastern Star services with Chapter 108 of the Lewisburg Order of the Eastern Star.
