The West Virginia Press Association has released the results of their 2024 Newspaper Editorial and Advertising Contest, which they host annually. Newspapers from across the state compete with other publications in their circulation division in multiple editorial and advertising categories.
This year, Mountain Messenger Head Editor Sarah Richardson was awarded first place in the Best Governmental Affairs Reporting category for her piece “Lewisburg City Council discusses stage at Green Space, wayfinding, and zoning,” published Mar. 30, 2024.
Richardson also won second place in the Best News Feature category for the “Viral tweet leads to worldwide interest in Monroe County fort’s history,” published on Jan. 13, 2024, and third place in the Best Business, Economic, or Labor Reporting category for “Smash Pots pop-up kitchen comes to Lewisburg,” published Mar. 30, 2024.
Mountain Messenger staff also placed third for Best Front Page for the Aug. 10, 2024 edition of the paper.
